HOW TO MONETIZE YOUR BLOG/SOCIAL MEDIA PROFESSIONALLY

For the past 2 or 3 years, a new job field has been created. And that job field would be : THE INFLUENCER. No Bachelor degree required… No qualifications or job application forms needed.. All you need is the internet, a couple of gadgets, and a good attitude (that is if you want to last in this highly competitive job).

Let’s just be frank here. A LOT of people want to have this job because it looks fun. Café hoping, events from morning till night, free clothes and food.. Just take pictures and you’re done right? Well… Let me tell you, looks can be deceiving.

Since the job is not a subject matter in university classes, I find that many influencers tend to end up in the “unmannered” & "confused" zone. If you haven’t read my previous blog post, you should! As I’ve discussed the most common complaints made by advertisers. And this article will help you on how to respond to those complaints politely & professionally.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I CHARGE?
Based on the average endorsement fees in Indonesia…
These numbers are very general. Always adjust accordingly to your power of influence. Do your research, ask you previous clients how sales & effect did you bring. From there, you can calculate your rates.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A PROFESSIONAL INFLUENCER?
It means that you're required to always write & photograph top notch content AND post on-time regardless what (except if it's a force majeur situation like if your house got flooded... and NO, "my battery died" is not a force majeur situation, take your powerbank/chargers... Thank you ). Be ready if your client requests to re-shoot or rewrite if your work is not up to their standard *told ya being a professional influencer isn't always fun*

PUNCTUALITY & KEEPING UP TO A DEAL is the key.

If you've made the deal (whether on contract or just by email/text), and got your sponsored products, then post it! Don't suddenly run away & hide. Your client won't be happy.. If you think that you're probably not going to like the product, then why accept in the first place?
If you want the endorsement money, then suck it up!

THE ITEM SENT TO ME DIDN’T LOOK LIKE THE ONE IN THE ORIGINAL PICTURE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
The best way to politely respond is to ask for a return address & say that the product doesn't suit you & that you're sending back the product so that they can make money by selling it to their customers (as long as it's not food or cosmetics here)
Also don’t forget to refund any paid fees if you’re cancelling the deal.

WHAT IF I WANT TO CASUALLY & PROFESIONALLY INFLUENCE?
Good news is that you can ! Bad news ? Well you sort off have to figure this part yourself & work the balance out as it's different for every influencer.

I tend to advice my friends who are doing it for fun to make it a habit to strictly accept endorsements/sponsorships that are relevant to them. But once in awhile, when there is a campaign offer that is relevant & well paid (whether in money/product exchange this is for each individual to decide) , by all means sign the contract ! Just remember to convert yourself to a professional once that signature is written.

CAN I RESELL THE PRODUCTS I DON’T LIKE?
It all comes down to integrity and empathy for this.

I’ve gotten loads of beauty product samples and I must say 80% didn’t work well on my skin. But empathetically, I wouldn’t resell those instead I just gave them to my friends whose skin might benefit from those products.

It’s like.. a friend gave you a present & you said that you love it. But then next week she finds out that you should it someone else.. it’s OUCCCHHH but you can’t really do anything you know?

Your choice to which direction you want your online presence to go to.

WHAT IF THE ADVERTISER IS MAKING ME ANGRY?
Calm down, no need to start email shaming at each other. Reply as calm as you can. Your digital screens are there for you to rephrase as much as you like & not sham your anger directly to the advertiser.

last but not least, one tip I would give : have a sense of confidentiality. Contracts & pricing deals are private between the advertiser and blogger. Don't compare , but instead evaluate your own value as an influencer.
and it's not a race of who posts the best content, but it is a race to push yourself to be a creative professional worker.

Below is only half of the instagram stories I did the other weekend.I didn't think of saving everything up earlier.. so yeahh.... hopefully you guys will still find these posts useful !

So I'll share the video (at the end of the post) and these behind the scenes images I've had for a long time..

Bokeh and Vintage Photoshop Video Tutorial

I immediately fell in love with ScreenFlick when I knew it was capable of recording my full computer without any time limits ! I've been searching for this program for ages. the only bad news is that I'm stuck with a watermark because I'm being a cheap-ass and I did not buy the full version (well my dad refused to do so because he never trusts online credit card transactions except from the Apple Store)..

Anyhow, since many of you kept asking me on the Photoshop effects, I'm dedicating today's post for TWO Photoshop tutorials (I'm on holiday, and I'm more-or-less unoccupied).. I suggest you to watch it fullscreen so that you can see where the mouse is better. Good luck trying ! just ask me in the comments/email, if there's anything you're unclear about..

BOKEH IMAGE TUTORIAL

VINTAGE IMAGE TUTORIAL

some random pics throughout the week I took using a self timer.. found out that its MUCH easier to work with a point and shoot timer feature than a DSLR because its hard for it to find the focus point when I'm not in front of the camera..

this was my first successful freeze frame shot ! i plan to get better at doing these photos.. shot this from inside the car, which is why there are some glass glares on the top right corner..

some other stuff i'd like to share :
got another interview from Fashion Jinx ! Chris was nice enough to let me do a video interview as well a text interview :D i was really excited as that was my first ever video interview.. you can read more here..

and i also won the giveaway hosted by Come Over to the Dark Side We Have Candy ! So happy because this is my first giveaway that I won (yeshhh my luck is that bad this year..) anndddd that i'll be able to choose my own piece of clothing from Westrags for the gift !

i do hope April is a good month ahead for me :D 2 goods in the first 7 days is not bad..

The Mighty Mini

Soo, around 2 weeks ago I received myself an N97 mini from WOM Nokia for trial and review!
Right now the trial period is done and I'm sharing you guys this review :)
Here's a video recording I did from the camera phone below :

So my verdict of the N97 mini is quite good ! I was highly surprised that the touch screen was very finger friendly (a nokia 7100 touchscreen was so not friendly). Now my mind really changed about the new generation of touchscreens. Plus I could type with my long nails :)

Check out the tiny size as well ! I was actually looking for a deck of cards to compare it with, but i couldnt find one.. so i guess a retro floppy disk would do . or not ?
ps* i cant believe these big discs can only hold 1.44MB of stuff ?1 tiny memory cards hold like 8GB nowadays.. technology moves faster than the amount of time you blink !

Another thing I like is the camera. As a camera whore, the 5.4 MP Carl Seizz lense camera is superb ! The respond is also pretty quick which gives me good shots of candid stuff. I also like the high amount of camera settings available (eg ISO, contrast, color mode, etc) so that I could get the best shots.

macro mode with flash..
and that's a macro mode without flash..

Next is the internet service. The sim card I put into this phone was actually not working. So I had to use the wifi to get connected. And from that, I learned the wifi connection is the BEST I've ever tried on a mobile device (eg . BlackBerry Bold+Onyx, iTouch). It connects to the wifi server extra fast and the internet browsing is fast as well.

One bonus : I can finally reply embed under post blogger comment forms on this N97 mini ! I can never do this on my blackberry. That would be very helpful if I need to do blog work during my traffic hours in the car.
So that's all I have for the review !

Next I'd like to share you guys some more nice news :)
firstly, I got a LOOK10 Best Selection Award ! Check out my feature here..
and second.. A while ago I got contacted my Style Sample magazine for a contribution article on "Style in My City". Obviously I wrote about Jakarta ! Anyhow, please have a look at the article I wrote in the online zine ! I'm really grateful for the contribution work ! Especially that the deadline given was super tight and I somehow managed to take the time to write this up during my mid-terms .. I can't describe how happy I am for this article :D
Here's a print screen of my article on page 15 .. you can click for a bigger view of it..

and if you wanna read the whole zine (which is amazing by the way ! it really is like a Vogue made by bloggers all over the world) click here.

Patchwork Denim DIY Tutorial !

follow my blog if you like it . iTweet @glister_blister
check out my Chictopia & Lookbook.nu
Cheers to the my 2nd DIY tutorial for you guys :D My first one got great comments and am hoping my second one will do also. This time I won't be doing a full vlog (since video doesn't load easily for some readers with bad internet connection -that includes me myself-) but I only made a vlog for the sections that are hard to photograph :D
inspiration
my source of inspiration. left to right : Sea of Shoes, Cheap Monday leather patch skinnies, William Rast patched jeans, Balenciaga S/S 2010
This DIY also falls into the 'temporary DIY' categories as the DIY isn't permanent and it won't destroy your jeans AT ALL ! in fact, you can use this project on ANY kinds of apparels (tops, leggings, scarves, etc.).. I've worn it with some navy leggins on my previous post here :D
hope you enjoy this ! feel free to comment if you've got better suggestions :D

First off you'll need the following materials :
Jeans (you don't have to worry about ripping the jeans out!), scissors, denim or any other kinds of STURDY fabric you like, safety pins, needle & thread. Optional : lighter.

First step : cut off some fabrics into rectangles/squares/whatever shape you want. you can one, two, three, or how many ever you want.

Next, fray the ends by pulling it out on random sections.

If you want the patches to stick together, then sew them together now. I sewed mine using visible white stitching to add more interest but you can sew yours however you want !

to add some vintagy worn out effects, take a lighter and 'burn' some bits of the fabric in the center. careful not to burn yourself ! check out the video on how to burn it.

Final step : pin your patchworks onto ur jeans ! if you'd like it to be permanent, then simply sew it on :D you can always take the stitches out if you're bored.

check this video below if you want the fabric to look like this :D

since these patches are removable, you can try sticking them onto different mediums ! :D and be sure to check out my patchwork leggings on this post !

First Vlog : DIY Shredded Shirt !!

No outfit post today, but am gonna try out something new at my blog : A VLOG (video blog for those who’s still confused) ! I did a vlog of a tutorial of creating my DIY shredded shirt from yesterday’s outfit post. It’s divided into two parts. The first video is for the beginner method, where the second method is more an advance method kind of thing.

Hope you all enjoy it ! and have an awesome weekend !

- I hate Wasabi, despite their health benefits.
- Next on the list, are Italian food. I can’t resist a good Aglio Olio pasta & baked salmon with olives and a squeeze of lemon juice!
- Salmon & Cream Cheese sandwhich at Cork&Screw is the most amaazzzinngg sandwhich I’ve ever tasted.
